Creative Specificity & Visioning

"The more specific we are, the more universal something can become. Life is in the details. If you generalize, it doesn't resonate. The specificity of it is what resonates."

~ Jacqueline Woodson

As a creative person, it's easy to get distracted and lost in many things. Yet, I think we can only have one main passion, and maybe a few others on the side. There is so much to learn about even one thing. And, even if we do many things, at the root of everything that we do, there is likely just one main theme.

The Specificity Principle states that exercising a particular skill primarily develops that skill. It is beneficial to choose to be devoted to one thing and then dedicate yourself to focusing intently on it.

For a few years, I have been observing many genius-level creative and spiritual teachers online, and I have noticed that each one is very niche-oriented in their true work. Each genius-level teacher basically delivers one thing to the world, specifically and excellently.

I have long pondered how little time we actually have to do even one thing really well on a genius level. When I think of the spiritual teacher Michael Beckwith as an example, he really only has one message: Visioning.  And, he focuses on delivering that one principle in every sermon, on every radio program, in every book and article that he writes.

This is such a powerful day to contemplate your specificity.

Life Purpose

Beckwith's view on "Visioning" describes the process of living into your life purpose. I will encapsulate this process for you here:

"Our purpose for being on the planet is simply to be an emanation or an expression of love.
That's our purpose. God's vision for our life is the means or manner by which we bring forth that
love. It's our heart's desire, our own unique way of expressing love. I like to call it our delivery
system. Each of us has a primary purpose to catch or open up to, and that is the particular
delivery system that enables us to serve our purpose of revealing love."

You might ask:

"How does God see Itself as my life?" We wait inwardly to hear, see, and catch what comes to us, what it looks like, and what it feels like, and we pay close attention to any symbols or metaphors that appear.

We are throwing ourselves open to whatever comes up, and we notice what begins to flow through so we can articulate it, write it down, express it, dialogue about it, and be aware of how it feels, not just emotionally but spiritually. In this way, we begin to articulate God's vision for our lives.

Once we begin to get God's vision for our lives, and we are feeling and sensing it, we ask, "What is it I have to embody or become for this vision to manifest? As we listen in a meditative state, we begin to hear from the deep levels of our being what we have to know, what we have to become, what we have to embody and change.

Then we write it down and we dialogue about it. We know metaphysically that we cannot have anything we are not willing to become. It is an impossibility for us to have something in our lives that is not aligned with our consciousness. So we begin to get a picture of how we need to develop and grow and unfold, of how we must change.

The vision is already accomplished in the mind of God. It is already a complete idea in the mind
of Spirit, so we do not need to pray for its accomplishment. We need to pray for it to be a willing
and able delivery system for the vision.

We never reach a place where the process is complete because God's idea is infinite and it's always expressing itself. We just become bigger and bigger places for it to express through. All the divine ideas that God has are already within us. We can learn consciously to shift our perceptions and lift our vibrations so these ideas can be expressed through us.

If we have been involved with a spiritual tradition that teaches us there is only one Power, then it's easier for us to try not to manipulate conditions or make something happen because we have an inner awareness that there is already order in the universe. We don't have to create some kind of order but can simply trust the order that already exists.

We can stop trying to use the Law of Attraction and now start allowing the Presence to use us. Visioning lets the presence of God use us, which is what all the great mystics who have walked the planet have done.  They haven't walked around telling God what to do or what they wanted.

It's the difference between saying "There is a power for good in the Universe and I can use it, and saying:

"There is a power that can use me.
" Spirit is everywhere and is always expressing through and as each of us. We know a greater order, better than we can imagine, is going to emerge, so we let God."
